Amazing Amazon has the largest range of turtles available for sale than any other store in Australia. In Victoria no license is required for Murray River, Macleay and Longneck turtles. We also stock some licensed turtles.

In Australia we have native turtles and not tortoises. Tortoises are terrestrial (land dwelling) and possess thick legs and toes and require water for drinking only. There are no Tortoises indigenous to Australia. A Freshwater Turtle is aquatic and is not capable of swallowing food or mating unless submerged in water. They possess webbed feet or paddle-shaped, flipper-like limbs  and will only leave the water to lay eggs, bask in the sun or seek more favourable conditions in circumstances such as food shortage or drought. Freshwater turtles kept on dry land will dehydrate, starve and die slowly and painfully. ‘Terrapin’ is merely a synonym for Turtle and was derived from the North American Indian word ‘Terrapene’. We have never had Terrapins available in Australia, but our baby turtles were commonly referred to as Terrapins many years ago. There is no such thing as a "Penny Turtle" and no Australian turtle stays at a "penny size". Turtles require specific housing requirements which include UVB lighting, basking lamp and dock, water heater, specialised water conditioning and correct diet. Check our caresheet out for more info.
