T5 Aquarium Lighting
T5 aquarium lamps are fluorescent lamps that are 5/8" of an inch in diameter. T5 refers to actual diameter of the globe and apart from the size the output is generally different to standard T8 size tubes. Just because someone states T5 does not mean that it is better than a normal fluorescent globe. You must make sure that your T5 globe is specifically designed for aquarium or reptile use or you will encounter many problems. Also be sure that your T5 light is high output and not low output as you could end up with a globe that is actually worse than a standard tube. Generally High Output T5 tubes are 24w (2ft) 39w (3ft) and 54w (4ft). If they are not these wattages be sure to be very careful in what you are actually purchasing as many retailers are offering cheap low output globes and advertising them as just "T5" to deceive the consumer into thinking they are purchasing a good quality, high output globe.
